Metal band Broken came into the studio to have some photographs done for their promotional material for their debut album. The band played a one and half hour set in the studio. www.myspace.com/brokenbandonline

Oh My Gosh

Gary Drew and Josh Head of Oh My Gosh Hair Salon in Penzance came to the studio for a very colourful photoshoot. They were after some exciting images to use for their advertising. With their styling and makeup by Josh they definitly achieved a colourful result.

Dukebox at Hotel Pelirocco, Brighton

Simon travelled again to Brighton to photograph up and coming band Dukebox http://www.myspace.com/dukeboxonline.
The weather was so good that it was possible to shoot white background images on Brighton Seafront without any artificial lighting, much to the amusement of the locals. The rest of the day was spent shooting at the Hotel Pelirocco in Brighton, the famous rock and roll hotel, just off Brighton Beach.

Photography Course at Mullion

Last week was the first of our courses at the Mullion Cove Hotel in Cornwall. The hotel perched on top of a cliff on The Lizard Peninsula, is a perfect location for photography courses. With stunning views and surrounding landscape it is literaly a stones throw from the sea. The quite harbour at Mullion a few minutes walk down the hill to the left, Pollurian Beach half a mile to the right and within easy driving distance of Gunwalloe, Kynance, Cadgwith and Lizard lighthouse its a photographers dream.

During the course I was assisted by fellow photographer Kim Walton. From our intitial meeting on the Sunday night it was obvious that those attending the course were a friendly bunch and everyone bonded as a group very quickly, with Kim’s quick witted humour as entertainment throughout the course. Whilst eating dinner in the restaurant we had a great view of the sunset and it was good enough not to miss, we made our apologies to leave the table as the sunset was to good to miss and suprisingly the whole course followed. The enthusiasm continued as everyone braved a 5.00am meeting to photograph the sunrise as well.

Each day of the course included some classroom based theory at the beginning of the day followed by on location photography at the harbour and local beaches. Every student excelled themselves and produced some fantastic images. Some of those images can be seen below. The course was a huge success, I would like to thank my very good friend Kim Walton and those that attended the course Alan, Barbara, Alison, John, Marlene and Caroline for a fantastic course.

Our next course at The Mullion Cove Hotel will be running on 17th October 2010

Advertising and Commercial Photographer of the year 2010

On Monday we travelled up to Exeter for the annual regional awards of the British Institute of Professional Photography. The evening was a fantastic opportunity to meet other photographers and a major surprise to me when I was awarded Advertising and Commercial Photographer of the 2010. The winning image was used to advertise local dance school The Big Dance Company of Danecr Ella Gilling. I also received three awards of excellence.

Fashion Portraits

We were asked to take some fashion style portraits. Greta, a model we have photographed before wanted some stylish images of herself for her portfolio. We managed to dodge the very heavy showers at Gwithian Beach to get these beautiful images. Greta also had some pictures taken with dancer David Williams.

Flava in Eastbourne

Flava traveled to Eastbourne for the launch day of their Eastbourne workshops. The workshops are part of Flava’s ongoing involvement with the Police Force’s Youth Anti-Social Behaviour programme. It was a brilliant day and everyone that attended had a great time. There were over 100 children at the workshop and even the Police Officers that were there joined in.

Jason 'Phats'

At the beginning of July we traveled to Brighton to photograph DJ Jason “Phats” Hayward of Phats & Small Fame. Jason took Simon on a guided tour of Brighton’s more famous places, back streets and alley ways as well as the Pier and areas made famous in the film ‘ Quadraphenia’, for photographs to promote his up and coming work and performances.
